Without Magnet

Field Display

Start with a checkup of the setup functions as described under Starting the Gaussmeter. Switch on the gaussmeter. After a few seconds the field display ligths up. The value displayed should slowly vary between the extreme values of the probe's range. Check the minimum and maximum field to be displayed corresponding to the probe under test.

Low Frequency Circuits

Set the SWEEP control to zero and the SIGNAL control to the value indicated for each field in the probe's documentation. Connect an RMS voltmeter on the SIGNAL output of the gaussmeter. The RMS noise should correspond to the one measured for each field value in the probe's documentation (measurement done with SWEEP control at zero and the SIGNAL control positioned as indicated in the probe's documentation for this field value).

With Magnet

The recommend measuring ranges to do tests are:

  • permanent magnets: 0.3 to 0.5 T
  • electromagnets: up to 2.1 T

Insert the probe in the magnet gap. Check the proper operation of the automatic search mode. By sweeping the magnet current in the automatic mode, verify the minimum and maximum field values of the probe range.
